I love coming to work each day at St John the Baptist. I feel so blessed to work alongside such a professional, hard working and committed staff, a wonderfully supportive parent community and fabulous children who bring a smile to my face as I watch them grow, learn and play. Outside of school I love to spend time with my husband Jon and our two beautiful children Patrick and Kate.

Education has always been my passion and I’m so lucky to be working in a community that has such a love for learning. Being part of a team that is dynamic, dedicated and truly love what they do is an absolute privilege and I am inspired each and every day I am here.  Our children bring constant joy and I love spending time with them in their classrooms and out on the playground. When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my beautiful family and friends.

St John the Baptist has been part of my family story over many years. Firstly I was a mother in the school and then was fortunate to join the administration team with Cynthia. I love working alongside Cynthia to welcome everyone to our school. People often describe us as the face of the school…I promise you will always be greeted with a smiling face and a helping hand when you come to meet us at the office. Come in and say hi!

Prep Teacher

I have been teaching at St. John the Baptist for 8 years. During this time I have been a Junior School Teacher which I have absolutely loved. I have always wanted to teach Prep. The first year of school is an amazing experience for students, families and staff. So much learning takes place and it is a privilege to watch the students grow. At St John the Baptist there is a wonderful family feel to the school and everyone gets to know each other really well. Outside of school I enjoy listening to music and I am a big movie fan.

Prep Teacher

My second year at St John’s will be filled with milestones and memories, as was the first. A prep year is etched in the minds of the students, families and teachers forever, making it one of the most precious and exciting  times in your child’s life. Care, patience and understanding are required to assist your child in making a smooth transition on their school experience. I look forward to working in partnership with you, as we guide your child on their learning journey. It is my aim that your child feels valued, respected and encouraged, this is achieved through preparation, targeted teaching, and fun along the way! I look forward to getting to know each child and building on their strengths.

I also commence the position of Sustainability leader and will be running whole school sustainability initiatives with the year six leaders. We will investigate ways of caring for our local environment and look at ways of reducing waste around the school.

My time out of school involves caring for my family, walks with my labrador, Patch and being part of a committee caring for the local Sanctuary and being an active member of the CEOM Environmentally Sustainable Development Committee (ESD)

This is my first year at St John the Baptist and first year of teaching! I am filled with excitement and joy as I am welcomed into the wonderful and close-knit community that is St Johns. I am thrilled about the opportunity to learn and grow alongside my 1/2 class of 2020. The younger years have always been my passion and I have spent the last 5 years volunteering in both kindergartens and schools. My aim as an educator is to create a classroom that values the development of the whole child as I acknowledge the importance of students’ social, emotional, mental and physical wellbeing. I endeavour to ensure each child feels welcome and safe in my classroom to feel both supported and able to take risks.

Outside of school, I love travelling and spending time with family and friends!

Sue Cahill

Sue Cahill

Year 5/6 Teacher & Performing Arts Specialist

The Performing Arts has always been a major part of my life. I’ve been dancing since I was four, teaching dance since I was 16, and had my own dance school for 30 years. To see students develop self confidence in the way they speak, move and act, through their involvement in the Arts, is a joy to be a part of. To experience the power of music and movement to inspire their heart, mind and soul, not only allows students to realise their creative and expressive potential, but assists them in promoting their personal wellbeing and social inclusion by cooperating and collaborating with their peers. I really enjoy seeing these skills develop in the students as they grow and mature from Year 3 to 6.

Stephanie Gorman

Stephanie Gorman

Year 5/6 Teacher & E-Learning Leader

This is my second year teaching at St John the Baptist and love being apart of the community, where we all support and encourage each other. I have been teaching seniors for six years and have also worked in special needs too while living in London. I love watching the seniors develop their leadership skills and supporting each other in their learning.  As a senior teacher I always look forward to our special events throughout the year such as Camp, Confirmation and excursions around the city.

This year I am also taking on the E-Learning Leadership role and love challenging myself and students in using a variety of technology to support and engage learning. We are very fortunate at St Johns to have a wide range of up to date electronics and always looking to improve our skills.

Specialised Teachers

Lorraine Costa

Lorraine Costa

Music Specialist

Music gives life to the soul. It is my passion to lead children on the journey to personal joy in  being able to participate in an area of learning which is non judgemental. Participating in music activities lights up the brain, allows for happy social interaction  and personal satisfaction.

I have enjoyed the warm, collegiate environment at St John the Baptist since I began teaching here in 2009. Outside of school I am involved in the activities of the music liturgy group in my Parish. I have the pleasure of supporting, and following, the musical endeavours of my family members, and former students.

Marialisa Mandarino

Marialisa Mandarino

Language Teacher & Religious Education Leader

In my role as Languages Teacher, I am fortunate to share my knowledge of the Italian language and culture. As a first generation Australian, I value greatly the opportunity of learning a second language. I strive to develop in our students at St John the Baptist an appreciation of the diverse influences the Italian language, people, culture and history have had on modern Australia.

I am also our school’s Religious Education Leader which I truly love! I feel privileged to have the opportunity to guide our students and staff as they grow in faith. I particularly enjoy celebrating Masses and Sacraments with our children, families and wider parish community.

When I am not at school, I assist at my local parish and at a local music theatre company with my family of three children who share my passion for all things that are music, dance and drama.

Reading Recovery Teacher & Learning Diversity Leader & Wellbeing

I have been at St John the Baptist for many years and to me it feels like home. I think the school is so wonderful that we have chosen to send our own children here. Currently I am working in the area of Learning Diversity. I have done further study in this area so that I can best support children to learn and flourish. I am also the Reading Recovery teacher. I work with children on 1:1 basis in their second year of schooling to support their literacy development. It is exciting to watch children learn to read and write. It gives them confidence to be able to learn back in their classrooms.
